Projects
Sidikis new album "Nakan" (2015) features Sidiki Camara on vocals and percussion and the
Norwegian jazz heavy weights Audun Erlien on bass, Bendik Hofseth on
saxophone, Jacob Young on guitar and André Viervoll on piano.
Sidiki Camara is regarded as one of the leading contemporary
percussionists from Mali. He is also considered one of the founders of
the modern current of Manding music. From early on in his musical
career, he was sought after by the likes of Toumani Diabate, Oumou
Sangare, and Habib Koite.
He has traveled the world as featured percussionist with the National
Ballet of Mali. After leaving Mali he settled in Brussels where he has
continued his brilliant career with stars of Malian music such as Mamady
Keita, Gomma Percussion, Rokia Traore and Boubacar Traore.
He has been a guest on European tours by Bill Frisells New Quartet and
is a member of Frisells The Intercontinentals that also features
Vinicius Cantuaria, Christos Govetas, Greg Leisz and Jenny Scheinman.
Sidiki also teaches percussion and is the founder of the cultural exchange program Yankadi.
